Well the IT market already exists, (a number of us are proof of that), so I guess by feasibility, you mean "long-term sustainability", but that covers basically all the industries in HK, right? While it is more of a services/operator environment, it still represents a fair number of people and jobs nonetheless. Just do a google on hong kong information technology and you'll see what I mean.
It's definitly not a jobs or innovation market in the Silicon Valley sense of the word, but that model is extremely difficult to replicate anywhere, the right combination of venture capitalists, university grads, campus layout, etc. all plays a part.
Cyberport is a basically a weak government-sponsored wanna-be-like Silicon Valley, an attempt to integrate an IT hub in HK but it's since become a glorified real estate development and without the rest of the infrastructure it can't create much in terms of future IT development. I wouldn't pin my IT future on Cyberport, but I might consider living there in future![]()
Actually I believe the technology for Octopus is from a French company, but HK has been extremely successfully adapting the technology and that's part of the innovativation that you do find here.

Yep, sure is. Creative Star (and I think Unisys was involved in this too) did a great job by adapting contactless smart cards.
