I am in the IT industry in HK used to work for a bank(HS). I got to warn whoever want to join the IT industry in HK that you need to prepare for long working hours (I once need to work from 8:30am to 3:00am for several days). You will need to pick up different coding skill and produce results ASAP. Forget about social life and time off is a dream. Also you will have to put up alot of crap from your users and managers.

via: thanks for the tips, I don't think I'd be doing any coding. Smarter coders than I are in abundant in HK, I couldn't add any value. During the good old dot-com days I once worked 48hrs straight (2nd day I started with a smartcard company), long hours is fine with me

banang: I love IT Security, a mix of tech and management. I do very different kind of risk management - not bank. I work for the govt in high end R&D. Of course, the IT stuff/risk assessment/controls are mostly relevant, although the assets and classifications differ.

IT security remains a niche area in HK. There have been a few openings related to IT security in banking & finance recently as the economy is moving quite well and local turnovers are up. I think Big4 do hire IT audit/security/forensic guys so you may want to check with them too.
