    Haven't been paid yet!

    Hey guys,

On Oct 15th, so almost 2 months ago, I started a new job in Tsuen Wan.
My boss is a really nice guy but he can barely speak English, so the communication is really difficult as my Canto is awful!

The problem is that since I have started working there (Oct 15th) I still haven't been paid!
I want to ask him when he's going to pay me but since I'm still under probation I don't know if it is the right thing to do.
If it was in my country (France) I would already have asked him, but HK has a total different mentality, and I'm scared that he won't accept it.

Any advise is more than welcome.

    Thanks

shouldn't you be talking to the HR dept? and yes you should be paid so therefore you've got every right to ask even if you're under probation. there's no such thing as working for nothing unless you're overly generous.

nothing to do with mentality. it's the law in general.

I don't think there's anything wrong in asking him as to when you'll get your salary, it's your right, probation or not.
Also, check your contract to confirm when you'd get your salary.

Just politely sk him. If there is something fishy going on its better to find out now. Perhaps accounts are responsible for handling payments of salaries? If so he may not be aware of the glitch.

Are you working legally or illegally? Do you have an Employment Visa?

Ralph Hughes is a very strange name for a Frenchman, by the way.

I am working legally, under a dependant visa.
Ralph Hughes is my username not my real name.

Thanks for the advise guys, there's one thing I forgot to mention. I have already asked him about 2 weeks ago and he told me he will pay me anytime soon. So that's why the situation is a bit complicated.

    Jeez
I saw an advert on the TV about being a good employer and paying employees. I was thinking "duh!" Surely it is the law - why spend taxes on an advert for something so fundamentally obvious. Think I know why now.

There must be a government page for this (everything else) you may need to get to the point with the guy in case you end-up chasing your money forever more.

It is his probation too. You are thinking about working there - do you really want to?

    Good luck

What does your contract of employment say about when you will get paid? If the employer is clearly in breach of that then talk to: Labour Department - Contact Us

As gunsnroses said, check your contract...you do have one, don't you?
