    Cold-calling employers

I'm planning to return to HK (perm HK resident) and need a job search strategy. I have developed something of a niche career, overseeing editorial and developing subscription products (eg, industry analysis, executive newsletters) for a research & consulting organization. I'm open to a career change as long as it's not a huge step backwards.

I've been monitoring the Classified Post and search firm listings and have found practically nothing up my alley. I don't have much of a HK network either. That leaves cold-calling my only real option, doesn't it? Is this an acceptable way of approaching prospective employers in Hong Kong? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Sure. I made most of my contacts that way. It's good to call, even if just to get the name of the hiring decision maker. It's competitive here. You have to show ready and willing.
