i agree for some industries.
the industry i am in where musical chair of jobs is the norm and 95% of job recruitment are done thru HH, then i think the value of a good HH is overblown.
of cos i know of some really good ones that i can communicate well and discuss about issues well, but end of the day its the person himself that needs to know the market better... no HH wld have that kind of indepth knowledge as compared to the staff and whatever anyone says, take it with a pinch of salt.
its everyone for him/herself in this world.
8-) u will know if u catch me over a beer..
anyway, just 1 example of how ironical things can be.
i was looking at 2 positions lately. one, a very good HH that is reasonably knowledgable in the field, did a very good job in talking to both side..
the other, a HH that is super irritating and all of my friends decided to boycott her ... i told the employing company to call me directly instead of going thru the HH. she was totally acting like a postbox when i needed one.
at the end, i got both the offers, and i had to take the latter. despite not liking the HH and not wanting her to make that chunk of money out of my placement.
so.. alot is about luck.. and about being relentless in throwing CVs around...
Mate if you think its all about luck and throwing CVs around you are at the wrong end of the Market and definitely need a good head hunter, that or you are a trader, were most headhunters fear to thread as it really is musical throw a CV around chairs.
I could argue the toss all day but it really boils down to finding a good partner you can trust and has your best interest at heart, as MrKnowitall quite rightly pointed out everyone needs a good lawyer, accountant, doctor, dentist, headhunter etc etc
Its about the relationship you form with these people and it works both ways
So when are we having that beer? I have a opportunity you might be interested in : )
well, you know, in certain market, some positions, there are just that many people in the region qualified to do it. so the HH's job is more to convince these people to move onto the empty chair than anything else.
and no, trader jobs are more the hot potato type with tempermental guys.. they are not the most musically chaired guys...
I´m in Information Technology sector, coming from overseas (Europe) and looking for a job in Hong Kong. As the others are saying it´s not easy to find a good HH / recruiting firm.
Any suggestions for capable HH / recruiting firm in HK i can contact?
Many thanks in advance!
