    Finding work

    Hello all!

My fiancee and I are moving to HK toward the end of the year. Her visa is being sponsored by the company that recruited her and as we are getting married before we go, I'll be applying for a dependent visa meaning I'll have the right to work.

My question is, how easy / difficult is it to find a basic job, ie call centre, restraunt that sort of thing?

Neither of us speak Cantonese yet as we'll be getting a tutor once we move.

    Thanks for your help!

An English call centre in Hong Kong?

In a bar or restaurant, maybe, but at something like HK$10,000 a month unless you have relevant experience.

How easy or tough it is to find a job in HK for non HK people?! I have just moved from Singapore and found it hard to find a job there too! M a Masters in Economics with a year's content management experience. I am keen on writing for English magazines or newspapers here.

i agreed with you!! yet i notice HK major work focus on Finance, Construction, and Services! I worked as FAE in Taiwan for more than 7 years, and i am planning to move to HK by next year after married with my HK GF. i am having a same problem like you as well.

however, i thought Singapore has more opportunity than HK!!

If you have the right to work here then no. But a basic job won't pay you enough to afford decent accommodation.

It is pretty obvious from Sweetychick's other posts what her mission of coming to HK is!

You must give one month's notice to your employer. You and your employer must inform the Immigration Dept of the break of contract within seven days. You must leave Hong Kong (return to Philippines) within 14 days of the end of your employment. If you don't leave you will be breaking the law and unlikely to be able to return to Hong Kong in the foreseeable future.

As you can see, breaking your contract now doesn't give you sufficient time to find an American man to marry.
