How much salary should a fresh graduate from America ask a big company for as an assistant fashion designer in Hong Kong with limited experience from internship?

Fashion at starting level is very badly paid in hong kong and china. Agree with what others have said, 8-10k and probably bare minimum holidays and no benefits. Have a few local and foreign friends that have given up on fashion and retrained, myself included. Good luck though :-)

Oh, and for local fashion designers even with up to 15-20 years experience, salary often ranges 14-16k with horrendous hours.get your experience here then move on to small luxury brand (European) or aim at being based elsewhere and perhaps be the Asia consultant/expert.

We are in the same blding as IT. Some staff dress so odd for work. Night n day compared to the lane crawford staff across the street.

This is what I heard about working for I.T. today:

Eventhough it is a fairly largish company, it is still run in a way which makes it very family style......not in the good sense. What I mean is, once you get in, unless you know someone (as in the boss, or a relative of the boss), don't expect any promotions.

What about OP's visa requirements? Assuming he doesn't have visa, his salary will be 0 as he can't work in HK.

But 8-12k seems the range for fresh grad nowadays

I don't know about the fashion industry but from what I've heard fresh grads in a variety of fields make anywhere from 8K to 12K. Your first job is bound to have a crap pay. It takes to work your way up and it requires you to put in the time and go through the junk salary until you have enough experience to demand and get more. My very first job paid me a little over US $14 a day! Of course this was a long time ago. Point is, just get your foot in the door and work hard.

if you're interning you'll be lucky if you get paid anything.

But... at least they'll take your time for free so you can't use it to waste money you don't have.

recommend doing everything you can to figure out who runs the show (make a friend in headhunting or hack linkedin), and make sure that ringleader somehow meets you and likes you. slyly let them know you're in the industry and on the market for a job. im not speaking from experience. i saw it on a movie once.

    Best of luck with I.T
