    Interviews in HK

got an interview just before i go back to the states for a short vacation. other than dress up obviously, anything else that's different in HK from US? i did some research on the company, it's in a completely different field from what i used to do. so pretty nervous and excited actually. do they do any type of tests or a set of questions? thanks.

Some companies do. Some companies don't.

lol, maybe should have been a bit more clear. i meant that a lot companies back in the states have a set of HR personality and behavior questions asking completely irrelevant questions to the actual skillset. just wondering if HK has something similar.

Is it an MNC or a local company?

Then it will possibly depend on the parent company culture and whether they are ethnocentric or polycentric. In other words, it varies.

lol, thanks. guess that was kind of stupid of a question. HK is probably too diverse to have something like that.

You definitely want to google the company and with phrases like 'top questions.'

I spoke to 23 MNC HR folks here in HK a few months back and googled 13. There was a 100% hit rate on their top question on the internet. I am pretty sure I'd get 100% if i did more

Of the 23 senior HR folks in the room (entry restricted to MNCs), there was a 100% hit rate on not one of them knowing this stuff is out or there nor did they know the names of websites where interviewees report results including and I gave them the names.

One US based client who I was on the phone with was unaware that not only were top 50 technical questions at a site called dwbi.net. Now I see you have to join their site for free to get access to the top questions. I assume our client bitched. Whoever runs that site had these brilliantly laid out with the best answers. Some sites have questions but not best practice answers like those people have.

    Youtube is there too.

You might want to check out Amy Cuddy for body language tips or check out impression management and how to pull that off. With some interviewers once you can fake sincerity you've got it made.

One question that Microsoft apparently asks is why are manhole covers round? Great question for North America but culturally that would not work in HK as manhole covers here are multi-shapes and sizes and all defy the actual answer the M/Soft people are looking for.

There are as many different approaches to interviews as their interviewers and all think they are the best at spotting talent.

because the tunnels are usually round? coo question

question to OP - were you looking when you were in the US as well? im assuming you were before coming to HK... and when you get in HK are finding it easier to score interviews?

im asking because i am now in NE China and have been trying for a while to get a job in HK (last 6 months or so)... i am now really going to turn it up a notch with the CNY coming up (and then immediately after) but i am getting to the point of just quitting my job up here, also working for an MNC, and heading to HK to just be on the ground with the hopes of getting better luck (after my wedding there in early May)
