Hello everyone,

First off, thanks for the time. I'm sorry this is such a tired topic.
From the dozens of similar threads I've read
the suggestions are to

1) cold "call" companies send resumes, etc
2) utilize university alumni network
3) use personal connections
4) apply to formal company internship programs

All these suggestions are fairly logical and kind of "no-brainers." However, from what threads I have read, I am quite discouraged despite planning far in advance. I need to overcome the obstacle of needing a visa, being without many contacts, and not being fluent in cantonese or mandarin.

I have been eagerly anticipating staying, working and possibly studying in hong kong for this upcoming summer with a friend. My primary goals are to explore a new interesting work experience, improve my cantonese, and reconnect with my culture.

Any thoughts? Any ideas? Ways to improve my odds?
A possibility I thought of which I am sure is easier to execute is to study at HKU for the summer and volunteer at a company. Financially, it would not be great, but living in the dorms and HKU tuition seems affordable.
Are there easier ways to obtain temporary work visas?
