    A slightly different PR question

We have a plan to move on from HK early summer 2017. This would mean leaving 6yrs 9 months after my wife arrived and 6 yrs 6 months after I arrived.

I know you need proof of seven years continuous residence in HK. From geo itself, the evidence you need to provide includes:

tax statements, utility statements, proof of employment and school documents, in addition to your HKID and passport entries.
Would it be possible to quit work in the June, and then visit HK once or twice in between, assuming the work visa ran beyond the 7 years? Or do you need to have been in constant employment?

Just trying to weigh up our options.

You dont need constant employment, you need constant residence.
Vacations and "short" departures are fine. The problem is that "short" is not well defined and if its not that short, they may reject you.

You could quit work in June and then just hang out. Plenty of dive spots around town you could explore

The problem is, just like the 20K thing for Employment visa, the 3month thing is not written down anywhere.

Depending on the mood of the officer they may or may not ask. They may or may not request that you show proof of residency (eg : a valid lease or a valid work contract) etc

For the sake of a few months, is it worth taking a chance ?

If you need to clock in every three months, that's completely do-able. One flight for my wife and two/three for me.

There's a bit more to it than that. My wife would like to leave now, but accepts that financially, we should stay here until June 2017. She's willing to stay until then but doesn't want to spend any longer than is necessary.

Fair enough but if she is hating the place and wants to get out ASAP, whats the point of aiming for PR. Leave ASAP and be done with it, PR is completely un-necessary.

PR is something very nice to have for those that like the place and can see themselves coming back again and again.

How important is PR to you both?

Howard, she doesn't hate the place but all things being equal she'd rather move. June 2017 will all make things equal. By no means is she miserable here.

Claire, PR isn't important to us but if, for the sake of a few thousands pounds and careful planning, we can get it, then why not.

But you're only 4 years in, and Hong Kong is not a place you intend to stay. Seems odds to go for it when PR and Hong Kong don't mean that much to you.

    Mat and bookblogger like this.
