    HELP!!!

I moved to Hong Kong about 3 1/2 months ago with my family. I graduated in May with a Bachelor's Degree in Food Service Management from Johnson & Wales University. I also have an Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts and a vocational certificate in Culinary Arts. I have almost 7 years of experiance working in restaurants, hotels, catering with three of those years holding management type positions.

I moved to Hong Kong with the understanding that I would be getting a dependent visa threw my father's job but since I am 22 thats a no go I guess.

What I need help with is finding a job. Preferably something like a restaurant/kitchen manager, chef, sous chef position would be perfect for my skills and abilities. I have applied at numerous restaurant, catering companies, and hotels and yet not one interview. Am I doing something wrong? Is there some magic word that I'm not putting on my applications? I know in the U.S. I would be able to find a job quite easily with my background.

Any help/advice would be great. Thanks in advance!

Er, ever heard of doing some research? And how could you have "moved" to Hong Kong without a visa allowing you to do so?

7 years experience and 2 degrees by the age of 22 is quite impressive though. Implausibly so I would say.

Please tell us the relocation company /advisor who stated that a capable 22 year old would qualify for a dependent visa by tellling us we will know not to use them.

But more to the point - How are you applying for a job? Hopefully not simply relying on job posts. Here are some approaches to consider.

    1. First, Johnson and Wales has a huge worldwide network that you need to tap into. I suggest that you contact Johnson and Wales - get an alumnae list for anyone in Asia also ask their career placement department for assistance.

    2. Second, become an avid attender and networker at the Hong Kong Chef's association, Hong Kong Chefs Association. You may also consider contacting - International Hotel & Restaurant Association - IH&RA

    3. Third, don't limit your search just to Hong Kong there are loads of opportunities in Macau (Macau Culinary Association)
