Hi
My name is Andy.
Where should I look for English teaching jobs? I'm currently looking at Chattaris (sp?) and the VCT. I've had a look at the EDB NET scheme and a lot of individuals state that it is like an ALT (assistant language teacher) whereby you co-teach with somebody else and therefore some people are treated like a virtual tape recorder.
My qualifications:
PGDE (Delta Equivalent)
4 years ESOL/EAP/EAL teaching experience (however much a lot of this has been cover work so the EDB won't accept all these short contracts of employment for the NET scheme)
BA in something un-related
CELTA
Have HKID because I left HK when I was 12 months old and have lived in the UK ever since.
Have accommodation (long commute from an NT back water)
Qualified teacher status is somewhat hazy due to the fact that IFL went bust last year and QTS is no longer required due to a spat with the union in 2011.
I intend to fly out to HK in April/May once I have finished the submission of my MEd dissertation for an MEd in computer aided learning.
I'm mildly aware of certain skin colours being preferred over looking like a local person.
Does anybody have anywhere else I can look (online) so I can hit the ground running?
The UK 6th form college market is awful right now and the short jobs I get are becoming less frequent. So I'm looking overseas HK (but not mainland China) is on my hit list.
Thanks
