Head Hunters, Recruitment Agencies, Finding Jobs by ourselves...which one will you go

As titled. In addition, what's the differences? Pros and Cons?

Forgive me for asking such naive question, but I really want to get out of the myths and mist.

Headhunters and recruitment agencies work for their client NOT for the person looking for the job. They do not have the best interest of the jobseeker in mind and have no commitment to the jobseeker.

They are useful if you can fit in their round hole but if your a square peg you are most likely not what they are looking for.

Its a mixture of all of the above to be honest

First rule of finding a job in this town is to Network Network Network
You need to try and obtain as many contacts as you can in the industry you wish to work in and just generally get yourself known.

Go to chamber of commerce events, Attend guest speaker conferences in your industry. Go to places such as Oriented.com etc and check out the happy hour events. Oh and before you do so ensure you get some business cards made up with your contact details and a brief outline of what you do. As you will be handing out a lot of these at the aforementioned events. Go to Print100.com as they're one of the best places to get the cards done.

Recruitment Agencies, Make sure your c.v is up to date and you know what you're looking for jobwise as it will help them and you target the right companies you wish to work for etc. Keep in regular contact as well whether by phone or e-mail but not to the point of harassing them constantly. Once a week should be more than enough.

Head Hunters, As per Alby's comments really they're there to find you and work for the client, To get yourself known by a Head Hunter then you need to do a lot of Networking to get your name out there.

So overall be prepared to do a lot of schmoozing once you've got some contacts under your belt, Invite them out for a coffee and try and get some industry information off them for any clues or leads to job openings they may of heard on the grapevine.

    My head hurts now!

Good luck and hope you find something.

Thanks guys. Correct me if I am wrong, Headhunters don't take commission from the job seekers right?

    While recruitment agencies does?

What's the standard commission that they are going to take from a job seeker?

Headhunters and Recruitment agencies never take commission off the candidate and its always the Client who they're representing that pays them.
