Working in China as a Consultant

Apologies for posting on 'working in Hong Kong forum' but not sure which other forum is most suitable.

I'm a permanent HKID card holder with a foreign passport.

If I work in Guangdong as a consultant for 2-3 hours a week, officially would I need a F visa? Unofficially could I go to work on my multi entry L visa and probably be ok?

If my colleague, a permanent HK resident with a home return permit did the same work, would they need any permit? If so what?

    Thanks

For working in GD for a few hours a week an F visa, which is a business visa not a working visa, should be fine.

A colleague with a home return permits needs nothing more than just that.

I have a 3 year Multiple L visa, permanent HKID holder, foreign passport, i go to china a lot but its all for work related as we have an office in Shenzhen and I visit a lot of factories, I even fill out Business/Conference on the entry form everytime, never had a problem. Officially you should get a F visa I thinks, So should I but I got this visa before i changed jobs so wasnt bothered to get a new one.

For some reason I though a HK resident with home return permit would still need a 'work permit' or something to work in the mainland - as a Chinese resident would need a permit to work in HK. If not then easier for colleague to work there.

wtbhotia - I have the same as you, with about 18 months left to run. I presume if I got the F visa it would cancel the L visa - something I don't want.

No a home return permits allows HK residents to work and live in China with no problems. They are not allowed however to register as a resident in any cities or receive any "state" benefits.

Just dont accumulate more than 162 days a year in China, if u exceed then you are liable for China Tax (40%).
