Applying for secondary schools in Hong Kong

    Hi

A bit about me: I have an MA in TESOL and am soon to be a qualified Spanish/French teacher (PGCE).

I’m looking to apply to the HKNET scheme next time it opens, but in the meantime have been looking for TEFL jobs in secondary schools in HK (or if possible Spanish and/or French). However, what I see often are schools that request you apply via post, i.e. they provide a physical address but no email etc.

Is this common in HK? Is it not possible to apply via email? It would take maybe 10 days for a letter to arrive from UK whereas emailing CVs, cover letter would be so fast. I just wonder about this! For example Native English Teacher - JUMP - Your Career Partner

Post can be much faster than 10 days - often takes 3 working days from UK to Hong Kong. If you go to the school's website, you can find an email address, but perhaps they get so much spam, it's safer to send an appliation by traditional snail mail. Perhaps they also want to see whether you can write an actual cover letter!

Other jobs I see on that site shown an email for applications.

Yes, it's common. Hong Kong is not as modern as many who don't live here perceive it to be.

Thanks for the replies. I've just happened to see a good few jobs like that so I wondered. Incidentally I went onto that school's website and couldn't find any information about the job advertised and although I could send them an email, snail mail would probably be better as you say drumbrake.

The other very common thing here is to actually phone people and talk to them. So if you have questions that might be an option. (Skype would be a cheap way of doing that from the UK)
