    MPF payments made late

Just logged into my MPF and seems my employer paid late several times on my MPF and now a bunch of $150 additions. Is it the case when your employer is late with MPF contributions that they are charged a $150 fee and that goes into the MPF account for the employee? Better return than the stock market if so!

If the employer is late with the contributions to the trustee, there is a surcharge (equal to 5% of the contributions in default) that is due to the employees. However, having an employer that is late on multiple occasions with MPF contributions might be a little worrisome.

I suggest that you report this to the MPFA and have them chat with the HR on your behalf. It always starts of with delays and eventually they tend to stop paying.

The MPFA will send out letters on their own.

The trustee is required by law to report to the MPFA when contributions are more than 10 days late, and the MPFA then contacts the employer. So the MPFA is fully aware of the late contributions.

Yes however they simply do nothing and use this as an excuse eventually when the employer stops paying and they have to go after them. I have a couple of friends dealing with the MPFA at the moment and they seem pretty useless.

The CEO of the company and HR asked my friend to go report them to the MPFA as they could do nothing. The office has since been closed and he was going to file for bankruptcy for the 3rd time. Meanwhile he is running a new company with the same management crew and will probably repeat the same in the next year or two.

MPFA has been at it since Sept and are trying to get my guy to drop the case as unlikely that they can get back any money.

So your friends company withheld MPF from employees paychecks and pocketed the money and filed bankruptcy to not pay their debts? So shady.

Well not his company but the company he worked for (his employer). I think many of their staff did not get paid 3-4 months wages as well. I heard that the labor dept sent them summons to court and they never bothered to show up. The same crew is now working in a new location under a different company name.
