How long does it take to get a written offer (after a verbal offer)?

I got a job offer on the phone on Tuesday. The manager sent the required documents to the headquarter outside of Hong Kong on Wednesday. He said he will be able to send me a written offer by email once he gets them back from the headquarter. I was wondering how long it usually takes to get a written offer...?

No one can answer this but you should get it same day or next. Do understand people are busy and it's possible it takes longer.

Not common, a contract is required in Hong Kong. Now someone will say verbal contracts are a go, but I don't know anyone without a written contract. Plus you would lose (or make difficult to assert) your rights and protections without a written contract.

Did you ask when is your start date?

You can always follow up by email.

    Hi xxx,

I'm looking forward to joining the team. Has there been any progress internally on the contract.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Kind regards,
    Xxx

**remember if they want you on the team, then it would be difficult to do anything stupid, except complain about the contract. So don't be worried to follow up. But don't call them every hour either. Once every 3-5 days is the most for follow up.

You also want to work for a company that replies to your emails. Needs to be a mutual relationship otherwise just a means to end.

This is a classic "how long is a piece of string" question. Impossible to answer. People at head off may need to check stuff and others may need to sign off on the offer before it goes out. It could take days or weeks.

Exactly, unfortunately it is a waiting game. Best to keep your mind occupied, by entertaining your other employment opportunities until you have a signed contract in hand. Because things fall through all the time, so best to protect yourself so you aren't starting over from scratch shall one thing fall through.
