I haven't done OT since 2000. I concluded balance in life in more important. There's nothing better than having a standup meeting with your team and your superior is asking for OT, only to use the opportunity to announce that I don't do OT in front of everyone. Of course, you have to perform in those 8 hours if you're going to pull this off.

I'd usually put in half an hour of face time in the morning, after lunch and just before I left, either reading email or mindlessly staring at code and listening to philosophy courses on Coursera in the background.

It was a good year and I got the best performance evaluation and highest bonus in my 5 years at the company. Suffice to say it also completely disillusioned me with performance management and corporate life in general.

Most days I work from around 12:00/13:00 to between 20:00 and 22:00, on some days I have to work from 8:00 till 22:00. I hatte getting up early and prefer to show up around lunch time, but unfortunately some clients prefer morning meetings.

Hard working people are admirable. But at the end of the day being productive is what really counts.

4-8 hours per day actual work including transportation--mostly driving to see clients and dropping by the office now and then. Average I would say is 5-6 hours per day but I work 7 days a week usually. I do take a lot of time off, usually 8-10 weeks per year.

When I'm on the hunt for new business--easily put in a 12 hour day. But I'm very focused when it comes to new business, so this happens about 5-10 times a year.
