How to become a bartender?

I'm about to graduate but the field I was studying just doesn't suit me. I find bartending an interesting profession, but where do I start? Should I attend bartending school or just go straight to bars and ask to be an apprentice?

You can get a little book on how to mix some common drinks. Most people will order RED or WHITE wine, a bottle of beer, or a liquor + mixer. Then you only need to know how to make some of the most common drinks such as Margarita, Mojito, etc. Not all places serve all of those drinks anyways.
