HK baby visa?

    HK baby visa?

Have read a number of threads but can’t find answer to our question...

Just had a baby born in HK. Neither parent is HKPR or Chinese citizen, we are here on employment visa and dependant visa respectively. Next week I will register the baby’s birth.

Does the baby need a dependant visa or HKID? If yes, when should this be obtained? As obviously the baby is already in HK before he has “permission” to be here. Both parents will become HKPR next year and I know that baby will also get HKPR then. But I am unsure what documents the baby may need until then.

The process is explained in the below link
How to endorse a Hong Kong dependant visa into the passport of a baby

I think Your baby wont get PR, when u get it next year.
It will be dependent and after 7yrs, will get PR.

Anyone born in Hong Kong automatically gets PR as soon as either parent does, as long as the person is still under 21. (See 2(e) of CAP 115 IMMIGRATION ORDINANCE Schedule 1 Permanent Residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region)

Thanks, that link is helpful. It mentions that a copy of the baby’s passport is needed, so I guess I should apply for the baby’s passport (British) first, and after that has arrived, go through the immigration registration process for HK mentioned in the link?

    Congrats on your baby

Go register your baby birth in HK, get the birth certificate and the apply for British passport, with that you apply for dependant visa for your baby, once you become PR then you apply for a new visa sticker for your kid.

P.S. Kids DO NOT GET HKID CARD (the plastic one) until they turn 11 yrs old so dont confuse yourself on this part, the only kids that do get the plastic ones are kids that are entitled to HKSAR passport as they have to apply at the same time.

Apply for the passport ASAP. A first British passport can take up to ten weeks from Liverpool. We then travelled a couple of times using only the passport and HK birth cert. Immigration at the airport just said you ought to get a dependent visa when you can.
