Compassionate leave...Is it normal to be docked pay

Is it common practise for employers to dock your pay because you took a couple of days off as your parent/spouse/child died?
I know its not in the employment ordinance but how common is it for employers to deduct your salary because a member of your family died?

I think in my company you'd get 3 days paid leave in these circumstances, perhaps more if you had to go overseas (maybe that is at discretion of the boss).

Never heard of it (but I am sure it happens).
