    GCB4 HSBC Hong Kong Offcer

    Greetings,

I have been working in HK for nearly three years now and working in the finance sector(financial crime compliance). Sinc I am about to start a package neogitation with HSBC on a GCB4 role(Head of something), i am just wondering if anyone could shed some lights on the range of salary of a GCB4 role please?

of course i have done some research, and glassdoor said the pay could range from 1.0 to 1.4 mil HKD a year. I am making 1.44 Million HKD currently (including everything), so i don't know how much i could ask for HSBC for a GCB4 grade.

Thank you very much indeed and any advice are truely appreciated. Cheers

Aiya! Does this mean that HSBC HK is going the way of HSBC Expat and about to impose really intrusive and painful KYC and "fraud control" on its HK accounts? I do hope not. HSBC Expat has already lost all my business as a result.

hahaha... no worries. This post with HSBC is something about internal investigation (bribery, misconduct etc.)

Based on my experience, with all benefits you would be looking at the top end of the range you provide. Base around 1.1m. This may or may not be negotiable.

    thank you @FrancisX.

So i could say 1.1 M base is pretty much the top end for a GCB4 in HK?

Just curious, do you have any idea what is the base of GCB3 ?

    Thank you very much indeed.

I disagree. The GCB 4 range can get towards or even beyond 1.4m base particularly for niche skillsets or areas of high demand. Equally some 4s will be on 800k or less.

There is a very wide range on GCB 3, starting at around 1.2 but again the top end can be double that for niche roles.

Why disagree? I was basing it on my experience. There's nothing to disagree with. What you can do though is share your own experience.

To the OP, I should add, working at HSBC was by far the worst working experience of my life

Why do you think you can negotiate?
They will ask for your previous salary payslips and offer you the same as before... unless this is a lesser role.

Most bank HRs do not play negotiation games in HK and just 'do the process'.
Based on your pay you are not senior enough to justify any extra effort.

HSBC in HK hires hundreds/if not thousands of people each year... you are just a data point...
