but i have friends who are shop assistants, security guards, customer service and they earn more than $10K (comission included).

i just thought <$8000 are for those uneducated and unskilled labor usually from the older gernerations or those very very fresh inexperienced teens. no?
    Hi, I am new here..
I am going to HK for looking for a job next month as a graphic designer. And I got the info from jobsdb that creative designer in HK only get about $10K-15K.. Do you think it is enough to cover one month live? And one of my friend freaked me out about the fact that creative designer in HK is not really appreciated or even needed.. Does anybody have any idea about this? Thanks in advance.

Do you have a visa or a HK ID card ? As it will be almost impossible to get a working visa if you are making less than 20K a month.

my father-in-law used to drive a green mini-bus. he got $300 for an 8-hour shift. working 6 days per week that still comes out to $7800/month.

With a salary of $8,000, someone would have to rent a place around 2,000-4,000. I would imagine that's only in N.T.?

You can get small flats in older buildings in Kennedy Town or HK Island East for around 6-7k, so one can always have a flat share and still stay on the Island if necessary.

As to people on 8k/mth, yes, I personally know of locals who have more than 10 yrs experience still trying to etch out a living, they don't even need to pay income tax as they are below the threshold.

I'm with you there. There's also one particular soul on these threads who answers all such questions by saying the average (ok or median) wage in HK is xyz and so why do you even ask? Words to that effect.
