    Job Application Processing

Another question with regards to job hunting.....

Being new to Hong Kong, I'm not sure of the answer to this, but I would value the opinions of anyone who does have an experience....

How long (roughly) does it take for companies to process job applications, and begin short-listing candidates from the closing date of a job?

I know this kind of question is similar to "how long is a piece of string?" but figured it was worth asking!

I suppose it depends on a job. I got a reply the same day I sent my email, got the job next week... and wait for working visa approval for over 2 months now...

    Job: Language centre English/Russian teacher.

    Job application processing time

I am in the same boat as you, arrived not long ago. My experience with response time is within 2 weeks. Some ads did mention the length of time to process an application and it is usually within the two weeks window. I don't know about you, I find most of them don't get back to the applicants if they are unsuccessful - you just need to be a mind reader.

from my experience, big companies take alot longer than smaller companies. but i guess thats normal since they will have more applicants.

i would give it about 2 to 3 weeks normally. and sometimes the job may have a specified start date (e.g. grad schemes) which may affect how long it takes.

    basically two factors
    - Company decision - depends on the decision making process and urgency ( one day to a few months...)
    - Work visa application with HK immigration - approx 2 wks

    All the best!

Usually if they want to interview you, I'd say 1-3 days they will call and arrange interview. Afterwards depends a lot on thier schedule. If they have many other applicants to interview or a long closing deadline then could be a 1-2 weeks before response. If they want to see you for a 2nd interview, then usually you get a call within a week I would say.

    2 weeks???
I'm waiting for 2,5 months and my friend for 3 months already. And still counting, as neither of us got our visas yet. Different jobs, different nationalities.

it shouldnt take that long... have you check up on the progress? Or call the company if they are sponsoring, and see why it is taking so long?

The company is calling them almost every day recently, as I was suppose to start working over 3 weeks ago and they have no teacher (my predecessor left end of May). The IM said the line is long, as they have plenty of applications, but they will try and MAYBE this week I'm going to get their decision. Somehow I don't believe them it's going to be this week

Have you actually spoken to ImmD yourself?

And are you in fact working unofficially for the company?
