Career change: joining HK police force...

...as a foreign, non-Chinese speaking female.

Possible? Or never in a million years? Anyone have any thoughts?

i don't think they recruit many expats any more. i do know some expat officers, but they were all here pre-1997.

however, all you can do is try. the worst they will do is turn you down.

    ps> do you speak cantonese?

Joining in what sort of capacity? There are Chinese language requirements for constables and inspectors: The Hong Kong Police - Recruitment (not surprising).

There are still a few expats recruited BUT it is stipulated that applicants must be PR and able to read / write / speak Chinese and English although it seems English is not such a biggy nowadays judging my experiences with HK's finest.

one of the requirements is that you must have been living in HK for at least 7 years.

You need to be able to pass a written test in Chinese. If you can't read and write at high school level--no go.

    A thought

    Alexandra,

Perhaps joining the St Johns Ambulance organisation or a similar civic duty type NGO may perhaps facilitate your need to help people / wear uniforms ?

    Sincerely,

    T. Washington.
