    tax and immigration

    Hi

I'm a Canadian living in Hong Kong. I have a question and don't know if you've come across this situation before. I haven't been paid the 20,000 in my contract position and have had to supplement it with private teaching.

But this means my declared income in the company sponsoring me is so low that it may be flagged at immigration and tax office. But it's not below minimum wage. It only works out at about 10 hours per week though. I don't want enquiries as then my private tuition would have to be declared and this then puts me in an awkward position.

Does anyone know of situations where permission is granted from the tax office for part time work? Or does this rarely get granted?

    Thanks in advance.
    Ellen

The tax office doesn't grant permission for anything. Immigration would be the one granting permission. But my expectation is that if you tell ImmD what is going on then your sponsor will be in trouble, and you will be without a visa.

I'd be more worried about why I had not been paid than what tax or immigration would think.....

I think this is a pretty common language school scam isn't it? They rely on hard-up and desperate young teachers not to complain to officialdom because they (the teachers) will be in as much trouble as the language schools.
