    Calling for all help?

    Hi,

My girlfriend is a Chinese American girl. She was born in China, and moved to NYC when she was young. She has lived in NYC for over 14 years, and speaks english with ZERO chinese accent.

She is fluent in mandarin, and speaks cantonese at an intermediate level. She is able to read chinese as well.

I am living here under a working VISA thru my company, and she would like to stay and live here with me. We are trying to find her a long term or short term job that will provide her with a VISA.

She is a jane-of-all-trades. She has worked many different jobs in Highschool and College ranging from Office Secretary to Hotel Manager to Marketing Assistant to Package Designer. She graduated her USA University with Honors Magna Cum Laude in art and graphic design. She also has strong skills in photography, web design, and all major computer programs. She also has begun studying Japanese to help with Japanese clients. She is willing to try most jobs, and is generally very successful at any job she does.

So, we have been having difficulty finding her a job and are asking for any help we can get. We are very desperate, as we don't want to seperate. Do any of you work for a company that might hire her? Or maybe you know of a company that might be interested?

I'm not asking you to hire her based on this post, but a chance to meet her and see what she is worth to you and your company. I trust you wont be disappointed.

i should comment that many schools she talks to don't seem to want her because she was born in China.

Some agencies don't want her because she does not have the working VISA.

I know many of you have been successful, and I just wonder if any of you can help her out with an interview or a chance.

" should comment that many schools she talks to don't seem to want her because she was born in China."

I don't think that's the problem. The main problem is that school recruitement takes place more in April/May/June than now. Now the school year started long time ago and most of the position are filled.

If she speakes Mandarin fluently she could also teach it no?

she could possibly...but to get the working visa the company usually has to prove that they need to hire a foreigner

its easy to do for most jobs...but i dont think it would be so easy to prove for mandarin teaching....as most cantonese people speak mandarin nowadays

is she technically an american citizen, or an american green card holder but chinese citizen. its a huge difference.
mainly because chinese citizen (despite being from the same country) would find it much much much harder to get official approval to work in hk than other country citizens.

She can always apply for jobs with language schools as opposed to schools, They take people on all the time and they will sponsor her for a work permit.

Matt, I can't promise you anything but ask her to send in an up to date C.V to me and I'll forward it onto some people I know in the recruitment industry.

And has she tried networking and got some business cards printed up, Get herself known within say the american chamber of commerce cocktail parties etc just to get some feedback from people in the know.

    I'll p.m you my e-mail address.

    Probably jus a open door,...

But if I underdstand it correctly youre GF isn't in HK yet. I know there are different opinions going around on this forum if you have a better change with job hunting while being in HK or from abroad. The first seems to work better...
So why not let here come over on a visitors visa,.do some visa runs if necassary and et least enjoy eachothers company while job hunting....

    Good luck,
