    Brief update:

I tried New Sankyo, Zhang (that was a great discovery) and Tin Cheung - all to no avail. Stepping down from an 82mm lens size appears to be a bit of an issue.

I will try Central today. If no luck then it's Mong Kok on Thursday. If still no luck then it looks like E-bay to me.

Thanks again for the good suggestions.

    Wow that's really strange.

Actually a better idea would be to do a search for B+W filter (i.e. the filter brand) or Hoya filter on the UK ebay site and you will come with a stack of HK based retailers. You can get in touch with those guys and see they have adaptor rings.

You can also get in touch with this company that are HK based that sell adaptor rings amongst their filter range:

Why I didn't think of this one before?? Anyway I bought a B+W adaptor ring (overkill I know) from these guys last year and they were good with stock and service. The lady I dealt with there is named Crystal if that helps.

Task accomplished today - thanks again for all the assistance.

I ended up at Stanley Street in Central and the third shop I tried - Chung Pui Photo Supplies - outfitted me with what I needed - although in this case I needed to use two step-down rings - 82mm to 77mm and then 77mm to 72mm.

That should work out just fine. Thanks again for the suggestions.

Except for the greater chance of introducing flare but that's another matter

The guys in the link above have a 82 to 72mm ring.
