    Mattresses in HK

    Hey everyone,

I need to pick up a mattress and was hoping to get some price info. Checked out a Sealy store in Shatin this weekend and they had a 19,000 sticker on the model i wanted ... no way i was gonna pay that much especially when i found the same thing online for ~1000 USD

Does anyone know where to go to get the best deals and what $$ range i should expect (as well as how much you can haggle down from list price ??)

My feeling is that good mattresses are expensive here (probably to do with the shipping and storage cost of limited quantities) - I ended up just taking the hit and getting a good one. It's still going strong 11 years later so, given I spend a third of my life on it, it's a pretty small investment.

If you want a less expensive spring mattress, you could try Airland (they have stores all over HK) or Ikea. Though I am firmly of the opinion that Ikea mattresses suck for long term use.

If you want a Western name branded mattress, you're going to have to pay through the nose unless you actually go to the trouble of finding an online store that is prepared to ship internationally, and then deal with the logistics of getting the mattress from the shipping port to you door. This is actually entirely possible (I looked into it years back).

You should never pay list price for a Western mattress. The stores are always running 20% sales or special credit card deals.

have you considered high quality and luxury mattress from casablanca, they make high quality mattress utilising swiss technology, they supply quite a few of the departments stores, ie, yata in shatin, sogo in cwb, citistore in tai kok tsui, as good as simmons, silent night and sealy but at a faction of the price. (best to go direct to their actual retailing store than department store as prices are higher in department store)

branches include - the one mall, 100 nathan rd, tst
    38b, the port centre, aberdeen

    CASABLANCA INTERNATIONAL LTD.

example, for their luxury range, s600, sogo quoted list price at HK$8800, while the stores actually offer a discount at 15-20%.

why don't you test a casablanca mattress compared to sealy or simmons in sogo to compare the difference (if any, apart from the price)

I had a Sealy before which I sold when I left HK for a bit and since I wasn't sure how long I would be when I came back, I decided to buy a cheaper nice one which I got at Seahorse. Surprisingly, it's very comfortable and holding up well after a couple of years.

I agree that a nice mattress will last for years but with HK's humidity, I'm not sure I want to keep mine for that long...
