    Lumix

thinking of getting the Panasonic Lumix DMC FX3 and wondered if there were any horror stories I should know about.
This is the HSBC flog of the month at $1080 so any tales of woe will have to be particularly gory to shake my resolve.

It's a bargain at that price.

Good image Stabilisation. Not the best handling of noise (though bizarrely might actually be better than the latest models using the Venus III engine).

Perfectly capable of producing great images (especially printed at 6x4).

VERY hard to beat at that price.

click "rewards Redemption" on the left hand side. The camera and a Nokia Phone are part of the "WOW Rewards" currently on offer.

    $1080 plus 28,000 points.

    the old switcheroo!

Finally got redemption letter dated 19th Jan with apologies that the FX3 has sold out!

They humbly request that I accept the FX10 at the same price!

The FX10 is their new 2008 model, and has a higher ISO and double the internal memory so why not.

Alas more waiting is in store as I have to call the redemption centre 'after' 10th Feb [does that mean the 11th?] and enquire if there are any left!

I have half a mind to park myself outside the emporium overnight to be sure I get one before they are all snapped up!

All the Lumix cameras are extremely nice. Panasonic Lumix camera always has some unique function that other brand of cameras don't have.. but there is only one con that I don't like - noise, noise , noise.

If you like lumix FX3, I think you may also like lumix FX03. 28mm lenes with silm design. Hopefully you can get the camera you want!

A colleague got the FX3 from HSBC and is very happy with it. The internal memory is laughably small and the camera's girth is reminiscent of a Brownie but the new model should be a vast improvement.
The phone offer was the Nokia 5300 but has now been replaced with the 6233 (?) a more advanced model with 3G. Shame it looks like every other phone.

    two questions

Well got the fx10 [finally] and a fine camera it is.
I popped over to Fotomax to pick up a SD card and was surprised to find SanDisk 1 G for $148 marked down from $6xx.
    what gives?

How do I get the camera to work like a cctv?
I plug it in and all I see on the tv is the blue screen; I can see pics that have been taken but nothing 'live'

1GB SD cards are $9x in WCC and other places.
What if you switch it to video mode?
