pre-programe remotes won't have alot of specialised functions such as tuning on DD/DTS, change source from co-axial to optical, delay/levels on surround/centre which are common on av amplifier remotes etc,..
however, there is second hand used av denon remote ( appears to be older one, it's more than likely compatible and has simialr functions/if not same, but as your RC969 is really high end, even if you buy a replacement from denon, it will be really expensive on the basis that this is a fully learning and el display remote) on yahoo acution, message says meet up in kam sheung station free, 100% working, also has full learning capibilities just like your one, normally, you can leave message for them to call you as discuss

Normally the remote will include a manual that list all the code for the devices it supports, you just key in the code and voila, it's programmed for your receiver.More importantly, how would it be pre-programmed for my receiver and who would do it? Would I need to go to the folks at Denon to get that done or can any high-end stereo guy do it?
(Check the compatibility before you buy.)
Just a word to let you know that in the end my dvd player was not dead! So I did not have to go and see a Denon specialist. Sorry I do not know about the remote, I also guess a universal one would do the trick.
Thank you, everyone.
Imparanoic - Thanks in particular! The links were very helpful! I am now hopeful that I will actually find the remote somewhere. As I conducted more research on the remote, I found that there are several unhappy users of the RC-969. Apparently, the Harmony remotes are good substitutes for the RC-969 and are similarly priced as well. Some more market research is required.
I'm using a harmony 785 to control a yamaha rxv 1400 and some other mid range av equipment a it works fine with all the more unique features. Your best bet is to check if the specific model is supported on the logitech website. If it is, that would mean it has most of the features that are specific to the model.
