Yeah, I'm 99% sure the PS3 can handle both voltages, like every other major piece of electronics in the last decade. It seems that was all a Sony ploy to prevent imports.

So how much could I expect to pay for a Japanese 20gb?

I'm guessing I'd have to find some dirty little independant console store in Mongkok to get one too

As you've already been advised, there are no independant console stores in Mongkok.

Stick to SSP and get 2/3 quotes then take your pick, thats all we can tell you.

There's one guy that sells video games in MK computer mall, but he's a scammer so avoid him.

I am sorry, I can't tell you how much you are going to pay. You know the pricing in HK is going to be much lower than the UK. You know the building (1st floor) and now the floor you need to go to. There is maybe 15-20 shops that well sell a ps3. Ask them all for pricing if you wish. Go to the lowest one. See if they will drop the price anymore, and then buy.

Wikipedia has the HK price for a PS3 20GB as $3100 or somewhere around there. So you must try to get cheaper than that if you can.

I hope you mean avoid MK for anything video games in general. Sham Shui Po is only two stops further on the MTR from the city, or two stops less from the airport/tsuen wan etc. Two stations is four minutes and not going to be more than $1.80 in difference between SSP and MK as far as I know. Why not go there and save lots of cash?

Now I know why they say shopping is a "sport" in HK

I'm not used to haggling at all - I mean, in the UK, the only chance you get to haggle is for a 20p Only Fools and Horses VHS at a car boot sale.

HK$100 is ?6.50 in my terms, which isn't much, so I guess I could try and haggle down to HK$2900. tbh, I can't believe my luck being able to get this thing less than ?400, which is HK$6150 - what we pay in the UK for a PS3. Chances are I'll lust out and pay retail ^^

I meant to say there's "only" one guy in the computer mall who sells video games and consoles, and he's a scammer.. He's on the first floor I think, has a tiny store with tons of video games, etc in there.

But yeah, there's no reason not to go to SSP to buy video games.

Apparently stores around the world are having trouble getting rid of their PS3 stocks - particularly the US.

You guys mentioned that it's hard to find PS3s in HK - I wonder if this is because less are supplied to HK or that there is higher demand for the console there?

Anyway, I'm off to HK in 5 days, and hoping I manage to find one.
