    Best Men's Suits

Ok, looking for some fresh opinion here. I have been here a few weeks now and I think it is time I got myself a hand made suit or two. Problem is, every single person I work with has their own place, so I have no clue where to go. I am looking to spend not more than about 3500 or 4000 HKD and am looking to not have to travel to terribly far from the Central area. Looking for suggestions, names, addresses, or places to stay away from. I am open to suggestions to places like Sams or any of the other well know once, if people can vouche for the quality.

    Very much apprecaited.

    - Dave

My husband had a lovely suit made in Tai Pan Row (Manning Shopping Arcade, 48 Queen's Rd, Central) - within a few days too. Excellent workmanship and quality fabric. My husband reckons they're better than Sams! They can work from a photo/magazine clip if you have one for ref. too. www.taipanrow.com

I would second Taipan Row (they also have a shop in IFC, but the price is a little higher bought from there, presumably because of higher rent). I'm wearing one of their suits as I type this and very happy with it (and the other two that I have); I also get my formal shirts there.

I've used two places in Central:

Taipan Row is good. Prices from around 4k, I think. Shirts are a tad pricey IMO.

There's also Yeun's on the pedestrian walkway level of the Hang Seng Bank headquarters. They have a better selection of lining colours if you are picky about such things.

might be an idea to get an extra pair of trousers as they will always wear out faster than the suit jacket. wouldn't want to have pants a different colour than the jacket in the future.

Very ture, I tend to buy two pairs per suit. Do you know how much they charge for an extra pair?

I have heard that many HK tailors simply phone in the measurements to a sub-contractor in Shenzhen. How much would I stand to save if I had my suits made when I'm in Shenzhen? Any tailors recommended across the border?

Got my suit made recently at LowHu in the commercial centre at Lark international - 5th floor shop 5060A
They were recommended in the "Shop in Shenzhen" book and proved to be OK - had a few things made there. They can do it quickly but it is better to take a week or two and go back for the second and final fittings. Stephanie and her sister run the place and she is very helpful, great English and they will do things like help pick out fabrics.
My daughter just took pictures from a magazine and they were able to help her choose fabrics and suggest styles and ideas - she was very happy. Others I have taken there were also pleased with the results.
My suit was cashmere wool - fully lined etc, two pairs of pants and a tailormade shirt - total cost $1050.

Plus 3 days of travelling, (maybe) three lots of visa costs, and so on... So whether that's a saving or not probably depends on how much you value your time.

That's what a 6 month multiple entry visa is for!
