    If you are not satisfied with your pics there could be many reasons - your lens does not focus properly, are you shooting in JPG or Raw, are you shooting during the crappy times (eg between 10AM and 2PM) when the light is crap, are you shooting handheld at a too slow shutter speed? Need more detail before we can help. Give us a sample of the crappy picture.

    Yup, that's bokeh. However, bokeh differs greatly from one lens to another depending on it's construction, so you need to be careful. A lens with "bad" bokeh will create harsh lines, which could ruin the picture.
