Good and resonnably priced tailor-made business suits?

    Hello,

I will be in HK for a couple of days and thought I could try to get a few new suits.

Any recommendation for good work at still reasonnable prices?

    Thanks!

    b.

    G'day B

I'm going to HK in October and I will be going to Shenzhen to get tailors to make me a suit.

I have been recommended a book named "Shopping in Shenzhen". Cost me $18 AUD to get it sent to me here in Australia. Only took 6 days to arrive. It mentions that you can get a suit made up from $400-$550 HKD in Shenzhen. Just Google it! They also have a book "Shopping in Hong Kong" as well but a little bit dearer to buy.

I got onto this book through reading a forum entry about tailors in Shenzhen on TravelAdvisor.

    Hope that was helpful

    Dave

I'd be VERY careful with the Shenzhen tailors if you want that suit to last / fit properly.

    Tailors that have been recommended

    - Taipan Row (several outlets - use the search)
    - Raja Fashions, Om Tailors are both advertisers here

I guess it really depends on what you regard as a "reasonable price". A Taipanrow suit is going to cost 8-10 times the price mentioned above for a Shenzhen suit, and they may not be prepared to compromise their reputation by rushing it out in a few hours. You get what you pay for (in time and money) with suits in my experience.

If you're in the market for suits at HKD500 then I'd have thought you'd be better off buying something off the peg at home and saving the cost of going to Shenzhen (twice - since there's no way a suit should ever be done without at least one fitting).

The Taipan Row shop in Manning Center has a sign advertising a suit + pants + shirt for $2800. Is there a catch in terms of fabric/quality? Hard to believe that the price is so much lower than the IFC branch, just 5-10 minutes' walk away.

for a suit look no further then the HK$29 deal in Macau

Get a $29 suit – If you’re desperately in need of a suit – perhaps to smarten up for the high-roller rooms of the Wynn – then XXX on the Avenida de XXX might be the place to go. Sure, the cut might be a little dated and the sleeves a little short, but when a jacket’s $29 you’re not really entitled to demand the finest merino wool. It might not actually smarten you up per se, but at least you’re wearing something other than a grotty t-shirt.

[I have no idea what the XXX stand for so here's a pic]

From their website ( http://www.taipanrow.com ) there seems to be a premium of $500 on most deals for using IFC or Galleria. The $2800 deal is really just the "teaser" with the cheapest fabrics - it never seems to end up that cheap, but, nevertheless, I have been very happy with 4 suits and about 10 shirts from them.
