    Looking for Vintage Games/Systems

    Hi!

Bit mad on retro gaming, anywhere sells old/vintage games systems in good condition?
Things like the old NEC PC Engine, Nintendo Game & Watches etc.

I think there used to be a shop in Times Square, on the 9th floor or something, but it's gone now.

    Thanks!

pc engine, I am resident specialist, I have a modified rgb pc engine duo using xrgb 2 plus for optimal visuals, also i have a core grafx

there is not many stores selling pc engine items, there a store in wan chai 188 ( 3rd floor), has quite a few items, pricey, sham shui po, barely any store will sell pc engine, there is a not for sale display with pc engine games.

game and watch are even rarer, i have sold ( partnership with a supplier a few years ago) a few for as much as US$900/GBP600 for very rare immaculate ones

best place is actually yahoo auction ( but watch out the pro seller/store sellers , rip off prices, a lot of items, no bids ), you get some great offers sometimes, usually far cheaper than stores.

most of the old stuff have decent emulators available to run on your computer.

emulators are not the same, close, but something missing, sound is usually different, but considering most are free, pretty decent

Best way is actually via andriod phone, wii remote and classic controller, you can even plug to a tv via micro hdmi

Or buy a OFW Xbox or Pre 2009 and have it Jtagged. You can run games from all the classic systems on it off a HDD (Downloaded of the net).

If you need the real deal I think you should go with Paranoic's post above.

Thank you for all the suggestions, very helpful.

Re: emulators are fine if you want to just play the old games, but I would like to start collecting =)

are you planning to be a hardcore collector, very rare items, (rolls royce of portable console from 90's pc engine LT HK$5000-HK$10000) to extremely rare, limited aspect in gaming wise, very colllectible items (pc engine ld rom HK$3000-HK$8000, pc engine shuttle or pc engine super grafx, this is not so rare, around HK$800-1000), even to certain extent, super rare and expensive, but dodgy playaibilty games (circus lido, renny blaster, Tanjou Gekitouhen can be up to US$200-400 each etc)

or a nostagical type of collector of highly playable games (slight pricey) castlevania rondo of blood around HK$600-HK$900 here, magical chase HK$600-HK$1000, coryoon HK$500-800, ginga fukei sapphire HK$1,300 - HK$2000.

personally, the pc engine duo, best of both worlds with an arcard card, allows you to play 99% of pc engine games (but not compatible with supergrafx, ld rom or odd game altered beasr cd rom ver)

pc engine gt can be found still in hk if you look at few places, beware of dodgy/ heavily used/aged capicitators which makes the sound out put close to zero.

expect, HK$1500-1300, from shops in good condition ( double if new), HK$800 online auctions, beware of rip off merchants though, i have seen as shop trying to sell this at HK$4000, while online auction at HK$5000!

but the screen size at 2.6in is a bit small, plus active matrix is very dated screen technology, almost state of the art in 1990.

nowadays, andriod or even a jailbroken iphone is far better in display technology, even though emulation is close, but never perfect ( only sound imperfections on some games, very slight graphic rarely), best is probably using an xperia play, pce app, plus added fact that you can play super cdroms ( sometimes even arcade card games) which pc engine gt didn't support

i am using an xperia arc with a zeemote one handed bluetooth controller, makes mobile gaming acceptable on mtr as well.
