    scallops

does anyone know where i can buy fresh/frozen scallops? saw a pack of tiny frozen ones at park and shop but i'm looking for a slightly bigger and juicier version. also saw them at great pacific place, but $68 for 100 grammes (about four of them) is beyond my budget. did not see any at the goose neck bridge wet market, or maybe i just don't know how to look for them. thinking of stir-frying them with broccoli and carrots/peppers.

Usually at the wet market they are available fresh in the shell, and generally of the sea and not bay variety. Though I should point out they aren't exactly cheaper than what you mention.

I saw larger ones at the frozen food markets in Sheung Wan near Queens Road. There is also one at the bottom of the hill near the Sheung Wan fresh Food market.

If you're willing to trek out there, you will find the biggest and best live selection in Aberdeen Wholesale fish market:

Do you have to buy quite large quantities though? What is a good time to go?

It opens around 4am and most stalls will close around noon(official closing is 2pm). Best get there around 8-9 when they will still have decent selection.

They will sell you anything but if you interrupt them while they are trying to haggle for a big container full of seafood and ask for 4 scallops, you may get dirty looks, you might get ignored or you might even get yelled at :-)

I've bought scallops, various fish and many types of prawn there in the past.
