    Best DVD store?

    Talking about legit DVDs.

What the best DVD store chain? HMV seems to be the best selection and most expensive, but any smaller stores or from more local companies in HK? If those stores have it for a bit cheaper, why buy the same thing at HMV?

    Around the Central/Wanchai area?

    The best - http://www.shopinhk.com/home.php?cat=43

Region 1 imports ... pretty much everything you'd need.

BUT... we don't compete on pricing. Some stuff is cheaper than HMV .. some is not.

    See the following links:

(scroll down to the HK section)

If you only want to look in the Central/Wan Chai area then probably the basement of the Emperor Centre in Wan Chai for imports, specialist foreign movies etc and Widesight behind Sogo for mainstream local and Hollywood movies.

Most of the best shops (for both specialist local and foreign films/art house movies etc and also for price) are on Kowloon side though, particularly in the Yau Ma Tei/Mongkok area. Depends what you are looking for.

Noticing that for DVD stores, it is pretty hard to find one while walking around on the streets.

Be vary careful in buying local copies of DVDs as some are poorly labeled and poor quality. I just experienced it with a film where disk 1 was part two, and disc 2 was part one. But at $13 it is still worth buying copies.

Most of the small legit dvd shops, also hire movies out via a pre paid voucher system.

Works out to being $7.00 per hire, Region 1 & 3 available at our local store in Tuen Mun... I usually copy the movies we hire, works out much better than funding Triads, and I control the video quality when I copy them for my own use..

I am sure there are a handful of these stores right under your nose, but most likely they wont be off street shops, more likely level 2 or 3 located shops...

Sai Kung has a pretty good shop for hiring on the opposite side of the HSBC, for those living in that area, also region 1 and 3 for hire.

Get a copy of magic DVD copier and lifes pretty sweet.
