    back pack water bottle

any one know where I can get one of those Backpack water bottles.. they have a pipe coming out the side so you can drink on the go! I'd want like 3 liters of water..where's a good shop to score such an item? imagine its a hiking/sports shop - who has a range of such things?

    thanks!

Yes, any hiking shop. There are many around. Which area are you in?

3l is the largest standard capacity. Hydrapak is probably the most common brand here, but there are several others.

Any of the outdoor stores should carry them
ProTrek - 10 stores around HK, KLN, NT stock HydraPak
Chamonix - 6a Nelson St Mongkok sell a range of Salomon packs
Escapade Sports - in Central and CWB also have Hydrapak
Overlander sell Platypus water bladders, but I think you'll have to buy the backpack separately
Racing the Planet also has a good selection, but their prices are often a bit higher than other stores.

    Happy shopping

They are different and it depends on your personal preference which one is best. I prefer Platypus (by quite some margin) and they are only sold in Overlander (12th floor Hollywood Plaza Mongkok, google for their other stores).

Some brands are more prone to leaking than others (the ones that come fitted in Osprey packs have a particularly bad reputation for that).

The hydrapak ones have weird bite valves - I don't like them, but you might.

Another leading brand is Camelbak - they are the blue ones - not sure who sells.

Basically it's like anything - if you buy the cheapest you see it'll probably break, and if you were relying for the water on a long hike, having it all leak out is annoying (or dangerous, depending on where you are at the time).

There are many outdoor stores that stock decent brands - Overlander, RC Outfitters, Chamonix, Protrek are the main ones. If you buy from one of those, it should be decent kit. If you get it from some smaller stores, be sure it's a well known brand.

For just a 3l hydrapak reservoir and the tube maybe $250ish. If you want the pack as well then $500 up depending on brand, size etc.

I am Hong Kong's second-best hiker, and I've never been in a hiking shop!

Thanks for showing off about your new phone, by the way.
