Can anyone recommend a good source for purchasing DVDs on Hong Kong Island? A large selection of current and old movies would be great. English of course. I buy about one movie a week since I don't have cable TV. Don't care to rent. Any suggestions?

Well there's a DVD shop selling local and Hollywood movies about every ten yards when you walk down most streets in Hong Kong so if your neighbourhood shops don't have what you're looking for then I guess you're looking for non-mainstream titles. Most of the best specialist shops are in Kowloon but if you particularly want somewhere on HK side then you can go to the basement of the Emperor Centre in Wan Chai where there are a few shops that sell art-house films, European imports etc in addition to the mainstream Hollywood films that you can get everywhere.
HMV.. surely the largest selection in HK.
IMHO, Hong Kong Records located at Pacific Place has the best range of movies and Dolby Digital-EX / DTS-ES music DVD's in HK.
Not the cheapest place to buy, but they certainly more than make up for it by the sheer range of what they have to offer.
If you are after something a little more specific, or you're after a good range of Blu Ray titles, this is a very comprehensive specialist store.

Thanks skyhook, I will visit IMHO, Hong Kong Records located at Pacific Place over weekend. My understanding it will be some time before the old DVDs are totally replaced, by then I will probably be in a nursing home for film nuts.
