Ah think of the carbon footprint though with all that extra packaging etc and also if its all packaged up like that you can't always see how fresh it is either!

yep. i know... but at least i'm not ingesting the pollution/fly feces...LOL!

actually, i wish it was possible to have a deep freeze here and buy 1/2 a pig, 1/2 a cow etc, like you can in n america. you can choose how you get your meat cut, thickness and it is all wrapped up in paper.

Ah but if the meat isn't free range or organic then chances are you're already ingesting similar stuff anyway!

And the same goes for cheap sausages/burgers/chicken nuggets

    wet markets

Depending on where you live and what's convenient, the wet market at Happy Valley was always famous for having hawkers who could speak English and/or deal with the expat community.

They are, however, more expensive than other wet markets.

    >> the carbon footprint

That piece of meat you just ate was living and breathing and you're worried about carbon footprint? Jeez .. there's got to be a limit on eco-hippie crap!

By the way, business week's got a good article up on Gore's new scam.

Thanks for the great tips. The wet market sounds like it will be an interesting experience. 33 days and counting till we land!
    Cheers

Another tip ... bring your own bag!! I use one for the meat and another for veg/fruits.

It is only those rare occasions where they prepare in advance / deliver that I stuck using a plastic bag.
