MLV 4 sound proofing + maths help needed!

MLV ( mass loaded vinyl ) is a great material for soundproofin - no Im not running a late night sex line - but with twins on way an workin at home I think I need to upgrade the office a bit...

    found these

    http://soundproofing.org/infopages/flooring.htm

its really dense - as dense as lead!!

found a store in mongkok ( dumbass and reclaimation street ) its selling rubber sheets which is similar but maybe not so dense..

anyone got any suggestion on this? or alternate ideas?

the rubber in MK is about 14 kg per square meter - the MLV is about 1lb per square foot/. ( how do they compare? )

about to attempt the maths - err any maths teachers on here

    roughtly?

    14 kg / m squared = 30.86 lbs for 10.76 sq feet?

err 2.86 lb per square foot?

    is it better?

I get 2.9lbs / ft^2 for your 14kg/m^2 MLV stuff which agrees with your figure.

    14/10.8*2.2=2.9

Edit: how do you attach a 14kg slabs to your walls?

Its usually the door you need to worry about, and the gaps around it.

    sorry missed that..

width = 12 mm ( so actually they are not they same as this MLV stuff- which is only 3mm thick!! ) but I think the mass and width make it viable?

( thats why I want to speak to the pro sound guy!!! )

----> cost? de[pends - if u get the korean made rolls - it was 2200 per roll fir chinese made ( which smelt a bit more strongly ?!! ) it was only 550 per roll

    korean roll dimensin - 12mm thick 120cm wide - 4 meter long = 2200 per roll

chinese roll 10mm thick 100cm wide 2.7 meter long = HK$550 per roll

( more maths required! whats the densities and cost ratio? )

anyways enjoy the holiday w/e yay!!

Does this stuff also work for stomping and scratching furniture from upstairs?
Should I ever buy a property in HK I need to keep this in mind if it does (I would hate having noisy neighbors upstairs but not having any option except sucking it up).
