Why don't Hong Kong sellers on eBay ship to Hong Kong?

When I used to live in the UK, I always bought my electronic gadget/accessories from Hong Kong sellers on ebay, e.g. computer cables, phone batteries, chargers, etc. Now that I live here, I thought it would be perfect, I could get my cheap junk and not have to wait 2-3 weeks for delivery, right?

    Wrong.

None of the Hong Kong sellers on ebay ship to Hong Kong. They offer free shipping almost worldwide, but they don't ship here. Concrete examples?

I was looking for a battery:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/300597702745
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/310790557587

    And for an optical cable:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/200717315470

I then tried Shenzhen sellers instead. Same problem, e.g.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/321214668996

All apparently different sellers. Plenty more examples but you get the picture.

    So - Why is this??

It drives me crazy. So I have to spend half a day to go to Sham Shui Po and buy the same stuff, most likely at twice the price (or more), or pay tons more on Hong Kong Island. I think it might even come out cheaper to buy from a UK seller and have the same junk shipped all the way back to Hong Kong, when it originated here to begin with. Just strikes me as so wrong.

So, does anybody know why this happens, or know of a way to get this stuff for cheap locally?

Why not send the seller a message and ask if they will ship to you in HK? Just because they don't list it as an option doesn't mean that will refuse to send it to you. No harm in asking

Why don't you write to the seller and ask them?

In other words, you two don't know the answer. I have emailed sellers before to ask this question and got no response.

I have also had this problem and have contacted sellers about it in the past. The response has either been one of no response or one of it is our policy not to ship to HK.

I generally end up using Yahoo auctions HK as an alternative.

I had that problem too, asking them is usually not much use.

    I can only guess:

    • They do list their items as 'located in HK' because it looks more legit but they are actually located in China.

    • They have no shipping discount for HK. They probably have a 3rd party transport agent that does not cover HK.

Lately I buy my stuff from Taobao, no such problems there. Every delivery is RMB30 though.

BTW, you can't send Li-on batteries by air mail. Banned item.

PS: I probably have some of those Toslink cables if you need some.

Yeah, I tried emailing 3 sellers, no reply so far.
The battery I'm after costs 3x more on yahoo auctions than ebay... guess I'll have to order it from the US/UK to save money!!

May I call you Sherlock? If I knew the answer I would have given it, but different sellers may have different reasons, hence my suggestion.

It's the same on Amazon. Item location listed as Hong Kong and available for international shipping. Get to the checkout page, "Sorry this item cannot be delivered to your location". So they'll send it to the States but not HK. Systems failure.
