Im not a big fan of most British bangers you get here rest of the family do but I love rookworst, thats a big fat juicy Dutch smoked sausage which is very nice in pea soup or hutspot/stampot which is mashed potatoes kale and rookworst even cheese etc. Winter yumminess.

Anyone seen "rookworst" here? I haven't been able to find so far. Once got at Olivers but haven't seen since.

"Fresh" British sausages we get readily available at Taste they come in various flavours like apple cider and what not, various quality some organic but all a bit pasty. Market place sell organic Australian frozen lamb sausages. I haven't tried them.

Halal butchers in Europe sell nice spiced lamb sausages not sure there any here in Plonkers if anyone knows....

Best of all is boerewors. This is something I have eaten a lot of when visiting South Africa they also sold them in the "South African shops" in London. I like because it's all meat almost like fresh chorizo in texture. A very chunky sausage sold in coils with coarse ground meat (lamb, veal, game, beef or pork, pancetta/bacon) filling, typically 90% meat. Nicely spiced with coriander cloves nutmeg garlic red wine etc......very versatile sausage can be used in many dishes casseroles, cassoulet, potjiekos, breakfast as well as simply chargrilled on a "braai" or barbecue until caramelised and delicious especially the ends if you cook em cut into pieces rather than the whole coil.

Yes, these were called "French merguez". 3 per pack. At the far end of the fresh meat section in Citysuper IFC. I'm assuming they were flown in. They also had "French chipolatas" (didn't know they had chipolatas in France!) and "French Toulouse sausage".

I never thought this was a comment I'd ever make but Citysuper's fresh ones are actually a little cheaper.
