What exactly are you looking for? With the exception of one or two places like B&Q in MegaBox hardware stores here are small and tend to specialise a bit (plumbing supplies, electrical supplies, tools, etc). They also tend to be much more flexible - so, for example, if you need a screw you can buy a screw (for a few cents) not be forced to buy a packet of 20 in fancy packaging for, say, $20.

Hi, I am after a hammer or drill, some nails, glue and a new shower head. Am I likely to find these at the Wellington St hardware stores??
My father in law is in town at present as we want to advantage of his handyman skills!!
    Thanks

Yes, the stores on Wellington Street carry this kind of thing.

The other option that I know of is Mongkok - Shanghai St and the surrounding lanes are stuff full of home improvement stores - each one specialising in one thing (like, tiles in one, glue in another, tools in a third etc etc).

if you're not comfortable trying out a local hardware store (for whatever reason), Japan Home and Pricerite have all of the things you need, including the drill and easy to find in-store (the local hw stores can be a bit of a mess to find anything...of course I'm a guy and don't like to ask for help lol!). They are everywhere as well.
