Can someone recommend a place to go to buy nice but not crazily expensive dining table place mats and serviettes/napkins apart from IKEA?

    Thanks

This is probably not going to be helpful, but we've gotten a fair bit of stuff from Chutachak in Bangkok. If you travel to Bangkok or expect to travel there soon, take a look in the various markets and second / third tier malls. Lots of really good bargains compared to HK.

If you're on HK Island, take a look at places like Horizon Plaza - lots of regional stores, not too bad pricing for HK.

Thanks for that. Yes I hadn't thought of Horizon, that should have some good stuff

Yea. Horizon Plaza is a good place to browse around. There is a new shop on the 16th floor which has quite a good range of designer brands and reproduction. I think it is called marc james design.
