I put in a small order with iHerb on Tuesday and it STILL hasn't been shipped. Nothing to do with the shipper, an IHerb issue.

I'm personally fine with paying the small charge for DHL because they are almost freakishly competent and have a usable tracking system. I usually call them when the package hits HK and tell them to deliver at night time after 8pm and they are very easy to talk to.
Bit of a thread revive: Just confirming that you can also send delivery instructions to DHL via their website, so you don't even have to make a phone call and interact with a human being to schedule deliveries

Definitely prefer them over the sidewalk-hogging alternative of SF Express.

I tried doing that with DHL but couldn't see an option for evening delivery. What did I miss?

DHL | DHL Express | English

I just used that to bang in a text request for an evening delivery, as I've previously confirmed that they are available for my address.

Someone replied via email the next day to say this was fine.

Thanks. I didn't think that would get through in time.

You don't have to wait until the package arrives in HK, you should be able to send in the request well before that. But it does seem that they check their messages promptly.

SF is just cheap, and this is how. I think when an SF delivery costs the shipper $30, the same with DHL would be $80-100. In some cases SF is actually cheaper than the post office... but in most cases they don't deliver on time. I had a parcel sit around for 5 days in their depot once because they didn't want to come down to repulse bay for whatever reason.

Is it normal for SF delivery guys to demand extra payment upon delivery? I had this happen with one shipment from China and have since avoided having anything to do with SF.

The base rate that they charge excludes some remote areas. $30 charge for delivering, to be paid by the customer or if the shipper has made arrangements, by the shipper.

Apparently no extra charges for us based shipments to HK, this is mainly for local and China shipments.

Makes sense then given where I live. $30 rings a bell too.
