Couple of updates to this. I made a bunch of incorrect assumptions before buying this, but overall the unit is great:

It works fine just by using the "on" button without the phone app as stated by @james_local.

It's mapping function is vastly better than cleaners that wander about randomly- it navigates hallways and separate rooms very efficiently.

Originally I had intended to store it under the sofa. The sofa is higher than the vacuum (which measures at 9.5cm) but the sofa is not high enough for the charging dock, so now it's sitting out in the open. Bummer.

The robot can get into my bathrooms, but they can't get out because of the lip in the floor. I'd thought I could make a little ramp to fix this, but discovered that the way the bathroom doors fit into the frame makes this impossible.

If you want the magnetic strips to block off sections of your flat, you have to buy them separately. I had thought they came in the box.

And back to @shri's first question, I have doubts about how well this would handle pet hair. The brushes would need frequent cleaning and the dust bin is quite small. My guess is that you'd have to empty it every day if you had a dog that shed a lot.

Fortress I believe still selling the v1 same as Xiaomi. The v2 much more expensive and washes the floor as well. Actually it doesn’t replace the v1 and both being sold side by side.

If you really want v2, then check out price.com.hk or AliExpress, Gearbest apps. Personally I’m happier if I can just upgrade my v1 to the captain America version

@bdw - where did you get that image from? I suspect these might be stickers that wrap the regular product? did not see any on Taobao ... (actual cobranded product or stickers).

Have a GeoExpat related problem - please create a support ticket.

I was tempted by Hello Kitty, but am holding out for Pac Man.

Xiaomi HK have stopped selling v2 - my assumption is they will be launching v3 here soon.

V3 is most likely this one: https://www.gizchina.com/2019/03/19/...acuum-cleaner/

Yeah they are just stickers, you can buy them on Aliexpress for less than $100. It actually popped up in my facebook feed, scary that facebook knows I have that Xiaomi vacuum and maybe they even know I have the Standard Chartered Iron Man credit card so think I want one of these stupid Captain America vacuum cleaners. Well, actually they might be right, but the wife would never allow it
