I personally feel that 'customer service' in general has been neutered in the 21st century and nothing like what was expected last century. I remember when I worked at Sony in the 80's how upset your dept head got if you didn't answer a phone call within the 3rd ring!
These days nobody cares, because maintaining that level of past attentiveness costs $$$ and requires enough staff to humanely achieve it.
Although there are some structural differences that are certainly superior back home, like returning an item and getting a refund etc or when dealing with car Insurance company's (claims) its just so simple, fast and straight forward here. HK is quite horrible in how it either won't cooperate or drags things out for unnecessary lengthy periods of time. We also had staff autonomy to deal with situations on the fly and owned our decisions.
But yeah, customer service overall has noticeably deteriorated everywhere and not a patch on what it once was like 25+ years ago. Different world I suppose.

Tax office. They're the best! You don't even have to pay them much.
Sometimes they even give you money back.
Fast, efficient, on top of their shit, despite living in the 80s under heaps of stacks of papets
Hey Skyhook, maybe you're on to something.
Post offices, too. (except sometimes language barriers for complex things.)
