...back on topic. It's sad they close. Although the amount of rotten stuff they had on their cooled shelfs was quite revolting (Saikung that is, Hang Hau seems better managed)

Last week or so I saw a 50% discount for the frozen stuff - the meat was already gray and frost burnt.

Once in a while they had something good.

I used to detour to shop in there - they had a good selection of stuff we liked. Then they didn't. Now they are closing. Perhaps not stocking anything different had something to do with it!

Unfortunately the quality and selection at 360 Mart is far inferior to USelect, particularly their larger stores such as the one in the Causeway Center on Harbour Road.

As more Western expats leave, be prepared for less choices catering to our preferences.

    It's even the small stuff.

Have you noticed that all Driscoll's berries (raspberries, blackberries) you can find in stores until last year came from either the US, Mexico or Australia (depending on season) and now everyone of them is from Yunnan province. Btw neither better, nor fresher nor cheaper. Fun.

The real one needs coarse grain, like rye. Or a natural chemical process like in pumpernickel (that is more cooked than backed for ~24 hours)
I think they add roasted malt flour to the dough to make the bread so deeply black.

Where is all the unsold and semi-defrosted stock going? I don't want it but curious. I passed a USelect in Prince Edward / Mongkok last weekend and took a look in. The place has always been tatty but it is dreadful now and lots of stock still on the shelves.

I will also miss the dark bread.
